I walk the avenue this November morn
And salute you soldiers either side
For though you were felled when you were young
You never really died
Now you stand here with your comrades
But no longer with your fears
You stand revered like you did back then
Like you have stood a hundred years
Commemorated here in splendour
Two flanks on parade
How humbled I am, when I think of you
And the sacrifice you made
When you walked for King and Country
Into a God forsaken plight
When you walked into the darkness
So I could walk in light
And here there is no cannon roar
No panic-stricken cry
No smell of death or sodden field
Or filthy blackened sky
No blade to bring you to the ground
No devil with a gun
Just soldiers that I honour
Bathed in autumn sun
A pathway of reflection
Through England’s pleasant land
Lined by those who fell for us
And who now stand hand in hand
In our hearts forever
Our indebtedness to you
Will never be forgotten
In Remembrance Avenue.
